Implications.

For milleniums men have known that alcohol is the greatest threat to the health of the individual. That is not news. It should therefore come as no surprise that it is this well established killer that the smoking surveys are measuring the effects of.

The consequence of the last 50 years of hysteria on smoking is that the citizens' vigilance towards alcohol has dropped. Corresponding to that, they have started to drink more alcohol. During the period 1920 – 1950 alcohol consumption was very modest in Denmark. So was the occurrance of lung cancer, despite the fact that smoking was very popular in Denmark. The strong growth in occurrance of lung cancer started when alcohol consumption rose during the period from 1950 to 1980.

Today, citizens are being made fools of by socalled experts that claim that everything from salt to diesel particles are damaging to health. Each time one of these clowns performs, the citizens are being diverted from alcohol. These tricks are the reason that citizens have no idea about how best to protect their health. That is why thousands of citizens each year succumb to lung cancer and other diseases that smoking is blamed for.

Everybody has always known that smoking is not completely harmless. But it is an academic point whether smoking can actually cause lung cancer. The risks of smoking are nothing compared to alcohol. As a stimulant tobacco is a great improvement over drinking. Even though smoking has certain risks, these must be weighed against the many somatic benefits that smoking gives.

It is the individual citizen that is in the best position to protect himself. Most citizens are ignorant. They are preoccupied with the many aspects of life. They have neither the time nor the intellect to guard themselves against any specious risk. What is paramount to them is to know the greatest risks, or they will misallocate their risk handling. Alcohol abstinence is the simplest and easiest way of keeping in good health. There are other risks, but daily alcohol consumption is undoubtably the greatest, much greater than daily cigarette consumption.

It is also possible to consume tobacco without smoking it. A very popular way is by chewing or snuffing tobacco. These forms of tobacco usage are less detrimental to health than smoking. The demagogues who scream and shout about the alleged dangers of smoking, deliberately avoid mentioning that there are less risky tobacco products. It is a sign of the shameful lack of respect that the demagogues have towards the citizens that wish to consume tobacco. It exposes the citizens to greater risks than nessecary.

The anti smoking campaign is an enormous death trap. Millions of citizens have succumbed to alcohol consumption under the impression that cigarettes were the greatest threat to their health. It is a hitherto unheard of squandering of trusted means that has taken place. The public squander that the anti smoking campaign is an expression of must be brought to a halt immediately.

The citizens must be informed about the correct state of affairs. Daily alcohol consumption is the greatest threat against health. Citizens must not be pestered with details to satisfy the needs of clowns and performers. They must not be used as bargaining chips in the irresponsible games of demagogues.
